Bloc Party Image

Bloc Party are a British indie/rock band who made the charts with their debut single on 2005, 'Silent Alarm'. It is clear that they draw influences from older bands sich as 'Pixies' and 'The Cure' - due to the simplistic nature of their medlodic tunes combined with their vocals. However, their upbeat drumbeats draw more from the dance/grime scene and this sound is now a common feat with all new indie bands. They've made use of the latest technology, creating superb digital effects on their instruments with sharp chord picking and a frequent use of tremelo.

Songs such as 'Helicopter', 'Like Eating Glass' and 'Two More Years' are just a few of their tracks to use these sounds and as the Arctic Monkeys are also new on the indie scene, their music sounds very similar to that of Bloc Party. Therfore by studying the image of Bloc Party we can
add to our idea of what our band should look like.

On stage appearance

It would only make sense that if in our video we are having cut-away shots to the band playing that they should naturally be performing. Here is a picture of Bloc Party playing a live show in Sydney.

  • They are mostly dressed in smart-casual clothing, ie. a shirt with a v-neck jumper ontop. Similarly they are all wearing jeans that fit!
  • Although there are 4 of them, they are quite spaced out on the stage which could give us a lot of camera movement and flexibility.
  • The stage itself is not too fancy and although we may not be to able to get such a grand stage, we could certainly be able to find somewhere smaller but equally as good, ie. a pub stage. There don't have to be many lighting effects - it can all be simple.
  • A microphone stand for the singers is crucial to make the performance seem real
